What In the WORLD Are You Doing???
I’m glad you asked! My classroom innovation plan is to implement a flipped classroom environment with project-based learning and gamification. Click on my call to action video to find out more about how the combination of these three educational tools can enhance both the home and school learning environments for students.
Why Do You Want to Do THAT???
Quite frankly, the traditional classroom structure is not enough anymore. The world is changing and our students are changing right along with it. What was once interesting and captivating to us as school-aged learners is now boring and less effective to those we teach. We have to make a change to get and keep students' attentions so that real learning can take place on a daily basis. My innovation proposal goes into more detail about how I plan to implement this change successfully in my classroom. Click below to find out more.
Have You ACTUALLY Researched This???
Definitely, and the research overwhelmingly shows that flipped classrooms, project-based learning, and gamification encourage more student engagement, motivation, and increased success in learning! Check out my literature review for more details.
How Do You Plan to Get ALL of This Done ???
I know. I know. A flipped classroom with project-based learning and gamification sounds like a lot and, if you look at my implementation plan outline, you can see that it will require quite a bit of work initially. However, in the end, it will all be worth it for our learners! Scroll through my implementation plan below to get a better idea of the various tasks I will take on during the pre-launch, implementation, and post-launch phases of my innovation plan tentatively scheduled to pilot with my class in August 2020.
So, Once This Plan Starts, How Do You Plan To Maintain Its Effectiveness???
As I move forward with my innovation plan, it will be important for me to remember that the best teachers are also the best learners. Therefore, I plan to continue acquiring as much knowledge as possible on the topics of flipped learning, project-based learning, and gamification so that I can gain a sense of expertise in how to operate all three effectively in order to teach others to do the same. To foster this level of knowledge, I plan to read the books on my annotated list as a starting point. Remaining current with classroom data and current trends throughout the implementation process will also be extremely important in maintaining the success and effectiveness of this initiative. During the pilot phase, I will regularly monitor student performance and solicit parent and student feedback via surveys. These tools will allow me to quickly learn of any pitfalls or opportunities so that adjustments can be made accordingly and, hopefully, influence more positive outcomes. By remaining current with trends in flipped classrooms, project-based learning, and gamification, I can become known as a source of information for my coworkers which will allow me to have some influence with them and gather support as I attempt to deploy this plan school-wide in August 2021. Therefore, in addition to the resources I have already begun collecting on these topics, I will also keep up to date with the latest trends via my learning communities as well as websites such as Flipped Learning Network, PBL Works, and Edutopia.
